How to identify your microbial sample: Metagenomic Sequencing, Whole genome sequencing or De Novo Sequencing?

Introduction:

Sometimes isolation and cultivation of an individual microbial species is difficult and may be even impossible. With the development of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, Metagenomic sequencing provides us with a powerful tool to directly study microbial communities in their natural habitat, with a broad range of applications. It’s also exciting to find new species in microbial communities. De Novo Sequencing enables researchers to easily generate reference genome for unrecorded species.

In this webinar, Novogene will offer a comprehensive demonstration of common metagenomic sequencing approaches, including Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing (SMS), Shallow Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing (SSMS), Amplicon Metagenomic Sequencing, and how to choose the most appropriate method for your research purpose. In addition to NGS, we will also introduce the application of TGS (long-read sequencing) in metagenomic sequencing, and how to analyze an isolated unknow microbial genome through De Novo sequencing method.

Learning Objectives:

  • Get an overview of microbial sequencing service at Novogene.
  • Learn how to identify the species composition in environmental samples through NGS technology.
  • Distinguish between several different metagenomic approaches.
  • Application of Whole Genome Sequencing (mWGS) and Microbial De Novo Sequencing for isolated microbe samples
