Multi-omics in Aging: Mapping Host-Microbiome Metabolic Networks for Anti-Aging Insights
Introduction:
Aging is often accompanied by impaired organ function, immune imbalance, and elevated chronic inflammation, all closely linked to shifts in the host microbiome. Yet the metabolic interactions underlying these changes remain poorly understood. The multi-omics strategy offers a new perspective: shotgun metagenomics reveals microbial communi-ty structure and functional potential; transcriptomics captures host gene expression patterns across different tissues; and metabolomics records dynamic changes at the molecular level. By integrating these dimensions, researchers can trace the trajectories of host-microbiome interactions during aging, identify disrupted metabolic pathways and potential intervention targets, and generate systematic evidence for advancing both mechanistic understanding and health-oriented strategies.
