Untargeted Metabolomics

Introduction:

Metabolomics is a new technology emerging after genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. It is an important part of systems biology. Metabolomics aims to investigate the changes of metabolic products or the changes with time after the cells and tissues of organisms are stimulated or disturbed. Through screening the differential metabolites of the experimental group and the control group, the biological processes involved by the differential metabolites are studied, and the mechanism of their participation in life activities is revealed.
Untargeted metabolomics aims at discovery. It is necessary to detect as many metabolites as possible in biological samples and reflect the total metabolite information to the greatest extent. The combination of ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and high resolution mass spectrometer (HRMS), namely, LC-MS/MS, has been widely applied in untargeted metabolomics research due to its advantages of wide range of detected substances and simple sample pretreatment.
