Introduction<\/h5>\n

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver malignancy and a leading cause of mortality among the different types of cancer. In the United States, it represents the ninth leading cause of cancer deaths [1]. It is more common in men than women and more prevalent in Eastern and Southern Asia and Middle and Western Africa. Frequently, HCC is associated with chronic liver conditions, originated from several risk factors associated with an increased incidence of HCC, such as chronic viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and C, for example), excessive alcohol intake and environmental exposure to aflatoxin and aristolochic acid.<\/p>\n
